Committees

Committees shall develop draft resolutions that further the mission of the Society, such as stating a position on a topic or issue of mutual concern to Society members, proposing or urging action of members of the profession or policy makers, and recognizing the work and/or accomplishments of others.

Professional Development Committee

  • Strengthen leadership skills for Society members.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for Society members.
  • Maximize communication and networking opportunities for Society members.
  • Disseminate information to Society members and related health and education organizations/agencies.
  • Support SSLHPE Staff and Board of Directors in the planning and execution of the Annual Meeting.

Advocacy Committee

  • Monitor and assess the issues for intensive advocacy efforts.
  • Increase the awareness of advocacy efforts regarding the identified issues.
  • Initiate, study, and recommend action on needed policies that directly or indirectly influence the Society's mission.
  • Increase member involvement in advocacy through cooperative efforts focusing on issues identified.
  • Study and interpret legislative bills that affect the Society's mission.
  • Develop, maintain and/or enhance a system(s) and services for keeping Board of Directors/membership informed of relevant legislative issues.
  • Collaborate with other organizations, with the approval of the Board of Directors, to educate appropriate target audiences, regarding policy and legislation.
  • Develop and/or maintain lines of communication and collaboration with other legislative and policy action groups.

Communications and Marketing Committee

  • Strengthen the external communication efforts to support the Society.
  • Strengthen the internal communication efforts to support the Society.
  • Strengthen marketing efforts to increase membership and financial resources for programs and services.
  • Disseminate resources and information to Society members and related health and education organizations/agencies.

Finance Committee

  • To oversee the financial operation and growth of the Society.
  • Make recommendations to the Board of Directors for improving financial management or investments that will benefit the Society.
  • Act as advocates for the Society with selected partners in the corporate and business communities.
  • Assist the Treasurer with budget matters and an annual audit, as requested or assigned.
  • Assist the President with advice and assistance, as requested or assigned in negotiating grant proposals and other financial matters.

Honors Committee

  • To annually select the person or persons to receive the Simon A. McNeely Honor Award and the Julian W. Smith Certificate of Service with the following provisions:
  • To secure names of all persons eligible to receive the Simon A. McNeely Honor Award and the Julian W. Smith Certificate of Service each year.
  • To recommend to the Board of Directors any additional awards to be presented.

Membership Committee

  • Strive to grow and maintain membership in the organization.
  • Assess membership needs related to professional development, networking, communication, resources, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with all committees to meet the needs of members.
  • Provide regular communication with members.
  • Work with the Treasurer to track membership dues and outreach to members.
  • Responsible for organizing an orientation session for new members attending the Annual Meeting in collaboration with the Professional Development Committee.
